This certainly is shaping up to be an exciting year! No matter what, we'll have the first African American or first woman Democratic presidential candidate—and so long as all goes well, one of them will win the elections in November. But the nature of this election season goes beyond the candidacies of Senators Obama and Clinton. What's most important is the incredible upsurge among all sections of the people—workers, women, youth and the racially and nationally oppressed—all over the country. In state after state, records for primary or caucus turnout are being smashed. Clearly, people see something new is going on, and there are historic opportunities to change this country, to put it on a better course towards peace, democracy, equality—and socialism. The Communist Party USA has been there on the ground and at all levels, in the electoral fight and, just like always, in the fight against Bush's Iraq war, the economic crisis, racism, for women's and youth rights, for gay rights—the list goes on. We are working with others to defeat McCain and, like you, we want to continue all these struggles to their logical conclusion: socialism. This can't be done without the Communist Party! But we can't win the fights of today, much less continue the struggle for a better world, without the funding necessary to sustain our organization. It's people like you who keep the Party going. We have no rich sponsors like the other parties do. We know times are tight and we're all strapped for cash. But that's partly what this fight is about. Please ensure that the future is bright, that the Communist Party USA is there to strengthen and guide the fight for a better world.
